What is STARSHIP: Everything you need to know

Everything-you-need-to-know-about-starship

SpaceX, founded by Elon Musk, is an American aerospace manufacturer. The company’s goal is to reduce the transportation costs of space travel to make the dream of Mars colonization come true. Considering Elon Musk’s achievements through SpaceX, Mars colonization seems close. SpaceX’s Falcon 9 was an undeniable success in conducting several missions to the International Space Station with astronauts. Starship is the next big project in development by SpaceX. This rocket will undoubtedly carry humans to Mars. So, Let’s see how.

STARSHIP

Starship

What is Starship? It is a fully reusable spacecraft in development by SpaceX. It can carry 100tons(220klb) of cargo to outer orbit, planetary destinations and between destinations on Earth.
Starship is 50m(160ft) tall and 9m(30ft) in diameter and will have a propellant capacity of 1200t(2.6Mlb). The rocket has six Raptor engines on the thrust plate. Three of them are optimized for atmospheric pressure, and the other three for vacuum operation. Liquid Methane and Oxygen will power the engines, and it is the first rocket to use Methane as rocket fuel. The large clamshell door on the rocket will capture, store, and return cargo to Earth. As Elon Musk stated, the Starship will not have a launch escape system since the finalized design of the rocket will be safe enough.

Super Heavy Booster

Super Heavy booster is the booster that will carry the Starship to orbit. It is 70m(230ft) tall and 9m(30ft) in diameter. The booster has a propellant capacity of 3400t(6.8Mlb) and 72MN(16Mlbf) thrust. All this power is achieved by the Raptor engines that are connected to the bottom of the booster. As stated, the bottom of the booster houses up to 33 Raptor engines powered by liquid Methane. After carrying the Starship to orbit, the booster will gimble its engines to get the whole system to rotate. Then the rotation will separate the Starship from the booster. After being separated, the Super Heavy booster will return to Earth and land on the launch pad using its six legs.

In conclusion, Starship is going to be the first step in making humanity multi-planetary. We all are excited to see humans set foot on Mars, and that future seems so close.

Above is all the information you need to know about the Starship and the Super Heavy Booster. I hope you found what you were looking for. Please share this post to show us your support.
